Unfortunately, drowning is among the leading causes of death of autistic individuals (National Autism Association). The IBCCES Autism training and certification for aquatics professionals provides a deeper understanding of autism to enhance aquatics professionals’ ability to work with and assist autistic swimmers or others in an aquatic environment. The training provided with certification gives professionals a better understanding of autism, common behaviors or needs, safety awareness, and communication strategies. This training is a component of the Certified Autism Centerâ„¢ Program, which aims to train organizations such as water parks, amusement parks, park and recreation facilities, and more to be inclusive and welcoming spaces for autistic and sensory-sensitive guests.
