With the dramatic rise in the need for teletherapy and remote learning due to COVID-19, along with the recent CARES federal stimulus package to ease the burden on schools and service providers across the country, a new set of training and certification programs for these professionals was announced today.

The recent Coronavirus Pandemic has increased stress created uncertain times for all of us but let’s not forget the 1:44 children who are diagnosed with autism and other cognitive disorders every year. Families of children with autism learn early how to anticipate and manage a crisis. But when the crisis involves emergency medical services or a trip to a hospital emergency room, it often takes a well-informed treatment team and caregivers to keep the situation under control. The sights, sounds, smells, and accelerated pace of hospital emergency services can overwhelm the senses of an individual with autism. The following suggestions are prepared for emergency treatment teams, hospital clinicians, and the families of individuals with autism.
International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES) worked with Vans to review its planned autism awareness shoe collection. Vans introduced the new sensory inclusive footwear as part of the Autism Awareness Collection, for which IBCCES reviewed the design, palette, and messaging as part of its certification process.
With this project, Vans wanted to celebrate the unique aspects of all people. Designed specifically with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in mind, the ultra-comfortable footwear collection is offered with sensory-inclusive elements including a calming color palette and design features that focus on the senses of touch, sign and sound. The collection is now available online.
3.14 Academy is now a Certified Autism Centerâ„¢, designated by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). Staff at the online learning curriculum and support center for parents and children with autism have completed a training and certification program to help them ensure students with autism have the best educational outcomes.
North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport is now the first museum in North Carolina to earn Certified Autism Center™ (CAC) designation, granted by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). The Museum staff and volunteers have shown their dedication to providing a supportive environment for guests with autism and other sensory disorders by completing IBCCES’ comprehensive training and certification program.
